“Daughter of the Waves: Memories of Growing Up in Pre-War Palestine” by Ruth Jordan. 1982 Hardcover, First Edition, First Printing published by Taplinger Publishing, New York.
This book is unused, unread mint condition, as new. Nearly impossible to find this rare 1982 book in new condition like this. Makes a great gift or a good collectible.
Nowadays there is much nostalgia for Pre-World War 2 Palestine and the life in One State Palestine under British Mandate or Turkish Administration.
Ruth grew up in a Haifa suburb near the Mediterranean Sea. Her father was a scientist and she had a relatively privileged upbringing, which “she evokes with love…a vanished era of charm and turbulence.”
Very much a child’s point of view, where politics and strife is understood in the personal context of the family.
These personal recollections are now viewed by historians as important social understandings of what a larger bi-national Holy Land might look like. Not sugar coated, Ruth tells all.
